Never uninspired.
Hello! I’m Rogue, the artist behind Onyxia Creative.
I’ve found that life always has a way of leading you towards what you’re meant to do. As long as you follow your heart. Sometimes, it’s a lot easier said than done, but if you maintain course, and don’t give up, wonderful things will come. I have always had a desire to come up with new ideas and create things that are different or stand out. The creation of something that the world hasn’t seen yet is honestly the toughest part of the process, but also is the best element of creation overall.
I grew up on the east coast, spending parts of my childhood in both Vermont and Florida. I always felt different there, and like I didn't quite belong. So I moved out to San Diego for college, not knowing a single soul, and just felt like the west coast was where I needed to be. I followed my heart, and it was probably the single best decision of my life. I went to college and received my BS in Graphic Design.
After college, I struggled finding an art job I liked. I knew I didn’t want to do normal design work (business cards, calendars, etc) so I randomly jumped on Craigslist and found a post for the start of a festival fashion & art company. I wasn’t sure what it would lead to, and I had never even thought about festivals in my entire life, but I was drawn towards the risk, adventure and unique style of art. Answering that post is what led to the rest of my life. Festivals and the art culture that comes along with them have changed my world entirely.
I was accepted to the job, which was the start up of a festival company called Liquid Dreams. I developed their logo and was the sole artist for them for about a year and a half. During that time, I discovered my love for psychedelic art, festival fashion and culture. They specialized in six layer screen prints and bandanas. The challenge of both of those products was intriguing and inspiring to me. We created over 20 designs together among other creative projects.
I left Liquid Dreams in late 2018, and started pursuing my dream of having my own festival art company. I officially launched Onyxia Creative in 2019 right before the pandemic hit. I faced the challenges regardless, and sold stickers as my first product out of my tiny home in Washington during isolation. Now I have bandanas, tapestries and fine art for sale, and currently vend with three other festival companies.
When I started Onyxia Creative, I knew I wanted to approach things differently. I originally grew up as a fine artist, with no desire to create digitally, but when I got through school I realized that I could just utilize the best of both worlds. My digital work strongly reflects my fine art styles, and I truly do ‘paint’ on the computer. I never use pre-made patterns, textures or images in my work. I only duplicate when making mandala frames, and use every opportunity to draw each element by hand, even if it’s a repeating element I need to draw multiple times. An Onyxia Creative fact that most people don’t know, is that I don’t use a brush tip for my dot work. Every dot you see I drew one at a time.
“I specialize in limited edition and small batch works, since my creativity is always changing and I never know what’s going to inspire me next. I believe that making art in small, unique batches and striving to make every piece special is what creates the energy that grew into Onyxia Creative.”
I couldn’t be more excited about the journey I am on. I currently live just outside Portland, Oregon at the base of Mt. Hood, and create from home. Find me at music events and festivals all over, I am usually carrying some art stickers and gifts, so don’t be afraid to say hi! Id love to meet you.
Stay true to your heart and never be uninspired when following your dreams.
